Newspaper article about the artist A staff writer for the Hartford Courant, VALERIE FINHOLM has written two recent articles (2005) about me and my house portraits. One titled “Portraits Of Houses Hit Home" as seen in the Hartford Courant Newspaper in Connecticut and “These painters don't just confine art to walls" as seen in the Chicago Tribune.
I own an operate my own art gallery/art studio in Winsted, Connecticut. I am a self taught artist and have been creating works of art for over 35 years. My gallery is located in The Historic Whiting Mills in Winsted which was the first manufacturer of hosiery in America. The space measures 1200 square feet. There are also other artist that have studios in the building. Outside of my window is the future home of the American Mural Project sponsored by Paul Newman. Below are some Examples of various Early American 17th century Primitive style portraits that you that I can create for you and you can find them in my ebay store.

These portraits are inspired by 1700 American portrait painters artist were called Limners. "The Limners—early 1700’s Eary American Folk Art Portriat Painters"were self taught craftsmen skilled in painting decorations on houses, signs, furniture. They lacked understanding of the basics of the fundamentals of art such as mixing colors, perspective, anatomical drawing and shading techniques. Thus their paintings usually looked very flat and lifeless but they did capture the way people used to dress and also the things that they cared about such as a person’s personal possessions or items that were used for an occupation or hobby.The word limning means drawing or making pictures with lines. The Artist was more like a traveling salesmen and spent most of their time traveling from one settlement to the next to find work. Most customers were acquired by word of mouth or by going door to door like a peddler.
